The ACIES JS is inspired by a unique Dave Guardala mouthpiece from John Scarpulla's personal collection. John brought the DG piece for a refacing job. After some discussion, we agreed that, rather than continuing to modify his original piece, we would design a new mouthpiece inspired by it with some different design elements to have the piece be more reed-friendly, respond more evenly with a fuller sound, and have greater ease in the altissimo range.
Each ACIES JS mouthpiece is hand-faced and finished by Stephan Kammerer and is silver-plated.

John Scarpulla is a New York–based saxophonist whose career spans jazz, funk, pop, Latin music, Broadway, and major touring acts. A Berklee College of Music alum and Phil Woods Scholarship recipient, he has performed and recorded with Tower of Power, Billy Joel, Celia Cruz, Willie Colón, Marc Anthony, Luther Vandross, Natalie Cole, George Benson, and many others. John was the featured saxophonist on Broadway’s Tony Award–winning Movin’ Out, has toured internationally, appeared on numerous gold- and platinum-selling recordings, and remains a first-call player in the New York music scene, including longtime work with the Funk Filharmonik.
